ASTRONOMY FOR EVERYONE

Our mission is to offer astronomy fans Starlight Foundation certified locations that guarantee the quality of accommodation and that of your skies.

Our GUIDED TOUR OF THE NIGHT SKY is included in the astronomical observation activities that we carry out from Astronomical Tourism and the Astronomer’s Nest.

The explanations of our astronomer and the use of astronomical equipment will make you travel through a dark sky to distant places that humans have never set foot on. The areas where we propose the experiences are located in rural environments where we enjoy less light pollution.

You will have at your disposal Rural Houses and Caves, to enjoy charming accommodations that have Starlight accommodation certification. We have accommodations such as La Granja Caves (Benalúa de Guadix), Algarves de Gorafe Caves, (Gorafe) and Balcones de Piedad Caves (Balcones-Olivar Guadix). All of them certified by the Starlight Foundation.

During the more than two hours of the tour you can see different celestial objects:

– The Moon, the only natural satellite on Earth, marked with dark lunar seas of volcanic origin, where humans have made a manned descent.

– Planetary nebulae (remnants of the death of a star).

– Galaxies (spiral galaxies with swirling arms, colliding galaxies, large universes made up of billions of stars).

– Star clusters (groupings of a large number of stars in a small space)

– Double stars (solar systems with several suns, some with striking color contrasts).

– Planets of the solar system (Jupiter and its moons, Saturn and the rings, and different objects depending on the time of year).

Our tour will begin with the recognition of the sky and will help us to orient ourselves, we will use laser pointers and binoculars, we will recognize the constellations, and we will begin to observe the different objects from telescopes.

Our astronomer will be at your disposal to guide you with different explanations on a tour that will not leave you indifferent.

OUR TEAM

Our astronomers are continually preparing new experiences, «Guided Night Sky Tours» and solar observations. They will guide you through the deep sky and they will discover all the beauties that the universe contains, so that you can enjoy an unforgettable adventure.

Miguel Ángel Pugnaire

Physician and Astronomer

Director of the Scientific and Teaching Department

I started in the world of astronomy more than ten years ago. I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I do writing it and that it encourages you to go hunting for stars, galaxies, nebulae and the great variety of objects and phenomena that the sky offers us.

Miguel Gil

Photographer

Director of Communication and Projects Department

I started in astrophotography in 2015, I dedicate most of my time to training and teaching. My main function in Astronomical Tourism is communication and the development of astronomical projects, in addition to advice.

Rafael Luque

Astrophysicist

Research Department Director

In 2015, he obtained his Bachelor of Physics at the University of Granada, awarded with honors. In late 2015, he begins his Master’s Degree in Astrophysics at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, where his research focuses on the discovery of exoplanets. He has carried out research stays in Mexico, Canada, the Canary Islands, Germany and France; all of them in the field of astrophysics. Currently, he is a member of INPhINIT «la Caixa» at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias in Tenerife, with the aim of discovering Earth-like planets around low-mass stars and studying the dynamic stability of multiplanetary systems within the CARMENES project
